Is One Piece full of filler? Much less than its reputation says. The filler list we checked on 8 October 2026 counts 94 filler episodes out of 1168 aired, which is 8%. If the number of episodes is what has kept you from starting, that is better news than you expected: skip every filler episode and you still have 1074 to go, but none of them are detours. One Piece began in 1999 and it is still running, so the length is real. This guide is spoiler-free: it lists episode numbers, not plot.

The short version

  • Filler is only 8%. The filler list shows 94 filler episodes out of 1168.
  • The big skips are short. The biggest blocks are 131-143 (13 episodes), 196-206 (11) and 326-336 (11).
  • Mixed episodes (part canon, part filler) are not on the skip list. Watch them.
  • To catch up faster, skipping filler saves you less than you might hope, so pick a pace and a plan instead. The plan is below.

How long is One Piece, really?

One Piece is more than a thousand episodes, and the exact number depends on the day you count.

According to Wikipedia, the anime premiered on Fuji Television on 20 October 1999, is made by Toei Animation, and its infobox lists 1,180 episodes. The filler list we used for the ranges below counts 1168 aired episodes, so it is a little behind. Both are right for their own date. That is why this guide dates every figure: as of 8 October 2026, the filler list stops at 1168.

Why is the filler so small a share? Because One Piece has mostly followed its manga closely, so there is much less need to fill a gap while the manga catches up. Most of the 94 filler episodes sit in short runs across the first few hundred episodes, not in one giant block.

The One Piece filler list

Here is every filler range from the filler list, with how many episodes each one is.

Episodes How many
54-60 7
98-99 2
102 1
131-143 13
196-206 11
220-225 6
279-283 5
291-292 2
303 1
317-319 3
326-336 11
382-384 3
406-407 2
426-429 4
457-458 2
492 1
542 1
575-578 4
590 1
626-627 2
747-750 4
780-782 3
895-896 2
907 1
1029-1030 2

Add the column up and you get 94. Why does the table matter more than the total? Because the filler is spread out. Nothing in it is longer than 13 episodes, so you never have to skip a long stretch to keep the story moving.

What about the mixed episodes?

Mixed episodes mix canon scenes with filler, and we would watch them rather than skip them.

The filler list also marks 44 episodes as mixed canon and filler, from 45-47 and 61 early on to 988-989 and 991 near the end. Because they carry some story from the manga, skipping them risks missing something. We count them as watch, not skip.

The fast way to catch up

You do not need a complicated plan: skip the filler ranges, watch everything else in order, and set yourself a weekly target.

Here is the simple version:

  1. Start at episode 1. Watch 1-53 as they are.
  2. Skip each range in the table and watch every episode between them, mixed ones included.
  3. Do the big skips first in your head. 131-143, 196-206 and 326-336 together are 35 episodes, which is the biggest single saving.
  4. Set a weekly number. Ten episodes a week is a number of your own, and it is a pace most people can keep.
  5. Finish where the list stops at 1168, then watch weekly alongside the current season.

Why not skip more? Because the rest is the story. One Piece is a long show on purpose, and the fastest route is the one you finish.

Where you will land when you catch up

Wikipedia lists the Egghead arc as 67 episodes, airing from 7 January 2024 to 28 December 2025, and says the current Elbaph arc resumed on 5 April 2026 after a hiatus. It also says the series is moving to two cours a year, with a maximum of 26 episodes annually. So the episode count will keep climbing, just more slowly than before.

Common questions

How many One Piece episodes are filler?

94 of the 1168 episodes counted by the filler list, or 8%, as of 8 October 2026.

Can I skip the One Piece filler and still understand the story?

Yes. Filler episodes are not part of the manga storyline, so skipping the listed ranges does not remove any main plot.

Are mixed canon and filler episodes safe to skip?

We would not skip them. They contain some canon material, and they are not on the filler ranges above.

Is the One Piece filler any good?

Opinions vary, and we are not rating individual arcs here. If you are rewatching, add a few back for the fun of it.

What to do next

If you remember one thing, make it this: One Piece is mostly story, so the quickest way to finish is not to skip more but to start.
